So, I was wondering what other parents think of star charts as a form of rewarding good behaviour. Do you use them? Have they worked for you?

I've never used them before this day, but Jamie just brought a couple of the things home to try out on the Snip and the Sneak. Other parents seem to rave about them. Just thought I'd find out the general consensus of thought here.

I don't know about them on a behavioural standpoint, but a girlfriend of mine uses one for her little guy and potty training. It's seemed to work well.

I think it's a good idea. Positive reinforcement.

Worth a try at any rate. :D

While it's a great concept and I think works well with some parents/kids especially when there is consistancy it didn't work at all with our kids.  We gave it our all but the kids just didn't go for it.  I think part of the reason is that they were really overused in the elementary school that it was nothing special at home.  Add to that, the girls would have rather had the sticker than it put on a chart.  I think it really is what works for your child.  The key is really consistancy and being commited to it.

I vaguely remember this from school. I think it gives a child the incentive to work hard and complete the task they need. I don't know what the new method is using them. My grandson Davin has just started school this year. I know it is far different from when I was little and even from my two children where little.

I think they are fab, I remember using them when I was younger for the little jobs we had around the house. My brother had another one as well for reading because he was/is dyslexic and it was used to encourage his reading. Seemed to work well.

I think it's all about the parents enthusiasm when introducing them and keeping that up, but all children are different, so there's never a fix it solution that will work for everyone.
